Permeable Paving

Permeable paving is a relatively recent introduction to the UK paving market. It is one of the key technologies behind SUDS since it enables control of storm water at its source (source control). As more and more of the country is developed and an ever greater area is covered by roads, pavements, roofs and other buildings, two problems have come to prominence; the increased load we place on our already struggling sewer systems and the risks posed to our treatment systems and watercourses from pollutants originating on the previously drained, impermeable surfaces.

From 1 October 2008, the Government introduced changes to the General Permitted Development Order making the hard surfacing of more than 5 square metres of domestic front gardens permitted development only where the surface in question is rendered permeable. Use of traditional materials, such as impermeable concrete, where there was no facility in place to ensure permeability, requires an application for planning permission.

Ranges of permeable paving products are available to order throughout our network of branches.
